About the Kinsey Scale Test

Answer for attraction you felt, whether or not you acted on it. The same nine situations are asked for adults of your gender and of a different gender, giving both axes equal weight. Skip a situation you cannot judge. Gender openness is separate context. This independent tool uses the historical 0–6 scale as a rough balance of your two attraction scores; it is not an official Kinsey Institute test. The scale cannot fully describe nonbinary, pansexual or changing attraction, and the result does not assign an identity.

How your result is calculated

Each question uses five ordered answers, scored from zero to four. The labels match the question: interest, frequency, comfort or preference. Reverse-keyed items, where present, invert that scale. Each dimension averages its answered items and converts the mean to a 0-100 score. Skipped questions do not count as disagreement, and categories without answers are left unscored. The headline follows the specific rules for this quiz.

The spectrum placement is six times your same-gender attraction score divided by the sum of both attraction scores. Gender-openness questions do not enter this calculation. With insufficient attraction information, no placement is assigned.

Your questions, answered.

Is this an official Kinsey Institute test?

No. There is no affiliation or endorsement. This is an independent reflection tool.

What if I do not experience attraction?

If both attraction scores are very low, the quiz reports no clear signal rather than forcing a 0-6 placement.

Can it tell me whether I am gay or bisexual?

No quiz can assign your orientation. The result describes your answers and offers language to explore.
